Building Bright Futures Together

3-4K Preschool is a full-time preschool program that integrates YMCA facilities with a traditional preschool experience. It is offered from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Children have the opportunity to swim twice per week. Through this program, children have the opportunity to develop an increased ability to think, reason, question, and experiment. They also learn how to follow directions and make choices in an environment filled with language and enrichment opportunities.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is a blend of teacher-directed and individual learning experiences. Traditional preschool education includes concepts, colors, number and letter recognition. Other activities include circle time, stories, center time, music, science, art, and daily gym time for large motor development. Daily lessons are planned to promote fun and learning for your child, as we strive to support the needs and desires of the families in our program.

Our Teachers

We want to form a partnership with you to provide the best experience for your child. We have an educated staff who continue to devote time to continuing education so they are well trained on individual learning styles and needs of all children.

Developmental Focus

We work together with families to help support each child to grow, develop and learn while providing opportunities your child will need to:

  • show their eagerness to investigate new things,
  •  engage in play with peers for extended periods of time
  • experiment with new ways to combine materials
  • contribute relevant information to discussions

Learning Areas

We work every day to make each interaction a learning moment for your child. Our areas of learning for preschool students include:

  • Art: learn colors and other vocabulary to describe creations and begin to combine artistic elements.
  • Language: express wants and needs more clearly and in greater complexity. Show enjoyment in being read to, retell the stories in books they know well, and develop number and letter recognition.
  • Mathematics: Use an ever-increasing vocabulary to describe and make sense of the world. Recite numbers and count objects with one-to-one correspondence. Identify geometric shapes and develop sorting strategies.
  • Physical Movement: increase motor skills, coordination and balance via gym time, and fine motor skills via puzzles, drawing, and writing.
  • Science: Gain knowledge and formulate questions, making plans and predictions, and verbally express ideas and thoughts.
  • Social/Emotional: Show confidence and self-direction, identify self as part of a family, community, and culture. Demonstrate ability to make choices. Verbally express needs and emotions. Begin to manage conflicts in social interactions.

Our Goals

  • Promote a safe, warm, comfortable environment in which each child can build strong, positive relationships with adults and children alike.
  • Understand each child's needs and maintain open communication with parents/caregivers to strengthen families.
  • Model the YMCA care values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Encourage individual development of self-esteem and confidence.
