Celebrating the Opening of Ty’s Lagoon at Camp Miller
On October 10, 2026, YMCA Camp Miller celebrated the opening of Ty’s Lagoon, a renewed waterfront honoring the life and legacy of Tyrone Taylor.
Ty was easygoing, adventurous, and full of life. A music lover and outdoor enthusiast, he made a lasting impression on campers and staff, inspiring others to embrace adventure, appreciate life’s simple joys, and lead with kindness.
As his friend Jason Coleman shared, Ty taught him “the value of unconditional friendship.” Through the Ty Taylor Campship Fund, Jason hoped other young people would have the opportunity to meet their own Ty Taylor — someone who could change how they see themselves and the world.
This year, Camp Miller received a generous gift from the estate of Ty’s mother, Rose Taylor, which has helped make the waterfront restoration possible. Now, Ty’s Lagoon will welcome generations of campers to build friendships, explore the outdoors, and create lasting memories.
May this special place continue to reflect Ty’s spirit of adventure, compassion and connection — and inspire every camper who visits to carry that spirit forward.
